Interesting that this is Episode 86. When I ran for US House, I was advised to make myself a smaller target and pull down my blog and podcasts. The advisement made sense in that the games politicians play involve taking their opponent’s words, lifting them out of context, twisting them, and weaponizing them.

I deleted decades of work. Some amazing. Some complete drivel. I tried archiving it, but the archive tools – or more likely, the operator of said tools – have failed.

So I guess we start again. I have kept this website – sort of a diary, sort of a confessional, sort of a hobby – for approaching two decades. I detail, to a certain extent, why it disappeared – and why I am starting again – HERE.

You have come to know me one of two ways:

  1. As a long-time radio personality. I spent over 40 years making a living behind a microphone. I “lived my life out loud,” openly sharing about me and my family. I loved my conversations with Colorado. I loved serving Colorado and bettering our community through volunteer efforts and advocacy.
  2. As a public servant. I have been honored to serve you as a Johnstown Planning Commissioner, Town Councilman, and Mayor, and now as a second-term Weld County Commissioner.

Those are my jobs – jobs I have loved – but I view myself differently. Foremost, I am a Christian – a child of God and a follower of Jesus. Then I am a husband/father/family guy. Followed by a public servant. I do well as a public servant because I am at heart a communicator.

Whether as a broadcaster, a public servant, or a person, I am all about the conversation. So much of the consternation the world experiences today is because we fail to properly communicate. Face-to-face. To listen and to be heard. To understand and appreciate. We’re no longer having conversations – we’re just hunkered down in our digital silos and lobbing word grenades into other silos.

A driving force for me – a passion in this late season of my life – is to use my God-given skillset as a communicator to facilitate the conversation. We must begin talking – not throwing word grenades – but truly talking with one another again. That’s why I am re-igniting the ScottCast, to have that conversation.

As I explain in the recording itself, I struggled with narrowing in on what the ScottCast will be. The bottom line, it will be a reflection of me. I am an eternal optimist. A student of the human condition. A great believer in human potential activated to glorify God. I am a social, cultural, political, and spiritual commentator – and that’s what the ScottCast will be. Thanks for being here – please like and subscribe.

As an aside, I asked my friends on Facebook their opinion of what this podcast should contain. Let me embed that post here – just for reference.

  • I really enjoyed your “road trips” to small businesses and talking with the owners. The one with the Johnstown mayor was very interesting. Congratulations on your many accomplishments when you were mayor!

Listen to the ScottCast

My name is Scott James. For four decades, it has been my honor to have an ongoing conversation with the people of Colorado. As a radio personality, as a community advocate and leader, as an elected public servant, and as a friend I have come to know and love you. The Scott Cast will be filled with just my random thoughts - culture, society, spirituality, politics, and explanations of things I believe need explaining.

Looks like @RepDaveWilliams did more than take money from China, he learned their politics as well. This is NOT how we act in the Republican party. We believe the most important speech to protect is speech you don’t agree with!! Wuhan Dave doesn’t represent me. #Freedomofspeech

Sandra Fish is a fair; honest and respected reporter.
As a Republican I’m embarrassed by the GOP chair.
As a State Senator I’m stunned by the blatant disregard for our Constitution - and by a former Legislator no less. Disgusting.

This is a battle to the death with the anti-civilizational woke mind virus.

My positions are centrist:
- Secure borders
- Safe & clean cities
- Don’t bankrupt America with spending
- Racism against any race is wrong
- No sterilization below age of consent

Is this right-wing?
