In recognition of National Nurses Week, the Weld County Board of Commissioners read a proclamation declaring their appreciation for nurses in Weld County, and their tireless dedication, sacrifice and professionalism in serving the county\u2019s healthcare needs. Nurses and representatives from The Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment (WCDPHE), UC Health, Banner Health, and Northern Colorado Medical Center were on hand to hear the proclamation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The proclamation highlights the difference nurses make in Weld County to improve overall health outcomes for the entire community. \u201cThe services the nurses provide at the health department are distinctly different than the nurses that serve in the hospitals, community health centers and doctors\u2019 offices,\u201d said WCDPHE Public Health Services Division director Shaun May. \u201cBut we are complementary and fill important gaps in health care that benefit the overall population of Weld County.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 1974, the International Council of Nurses designated May 12, Florence Nightingale\u2019s birthday, as International Nurses Day to recognize nurses’ contributions. Today, five decades later, this week-long celebration, promoted by the American Nurses Association, serves to spotlight the largest community of healthcare professionals, exceeding 4 million in number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is important that we call attention to the positive influence nurses have on the public health of Weld County,\u201d said Perry Buck, Commissioner Coordinator of WCDPHE. \u201cTheir dedication and efforts often go unrecognized, but the difference they make on individuals and families is immeasurable. I am profoundly grateful and honored to stand among these dedicated individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
