{"id":1614,"date":"2024-04-24T04:38:49","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T10:38:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scottkjames.com\/website_d4298829\/?p=1614"},"modified":"2024-04-26T04:43:36","modified_gmt":"2024-04-26T10:43:36","slug":"commissioners-formally-oppose-house-bill-24-1460","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottkjames.com\/website_d4298829\/2024\/04\/commissioners-formally-oppose-house-bill-24-1460\/","title":{"rendered":"Commissioners Formally Oppose House Bill 24-1460"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\">A late minute bill dropped last weekend in the state legislature prompted testimony and formal opposition by the Weld County Board of Commissioners.&nbsp;<a>At today\u2019s commissioners\u2019 meeting, the board voted 5-0 to pass a formal expression of opposition to House Bill 24-1460, entitled \u201cConcerning Measures to Strengthen Responses to Law Enforcement Misconduct.\u201d&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The bill, which according to testimony at the capitol Tuesday night, was not reviewed with stakeholders to examine impact and liability, and it creates yet one more roadblock for law enforcement agencies statewide to recruit and retain officers and deputies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Commissioner Perry Buck, who testified on behalf of the board of commissioners in opposition to the bill Tuesday night when it was heard at the House Judiciary Committee, said, \u201cWhile we acknowledge the importance of addressing misconduct within law enforcement, we believe this bill is not the appropriate solution.
