Monthly Theme Reminder:
This month, we’re focusing on how God’s presence gives us the courage to overcome fear.
Weekly Theme Reminder:
This week, we’re exploring God’s promise to always be with us, no matter what we face.
Welcome back to Jesus and the Average Joe! Yesterday, we kicked off our journey with Isaiah 41:10 and God’s promise to uphold us. Today, we’re building on that foundation with another powerful verse: Deuteronomy 31:6.
So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.
Deuteronomy 31:6
Courage can feel like an elusive quality—something reserved for superheroes or extraordinary people. But God’s Word reminds us that true courage isn’t about having zero fear; it’s about trusting the One who goes with us into the unknown.
I remember one of the most intimidating moments of my life: calling out a developer in front of a governmental body. I felt completely unqualified and terrified of messing up. I’ll tell that story in the podcast. I wish I had remembered this verse, Deuteronomy 31:6. As I matured in my public service career, it has become a recurring source of comfort for me. Knowing that God is not only with me, but would never leave me gives me the strength to take leaps into places that a guy like me really has no business being.
Whatever challenges you’re facing today, remember this: Courage isn’t about being fearless; it’s about trusting in God’s unfailing presence.
God’s promise in Deuteronomy 31:6 isn’t just for leaders like Joshua—it’s for all of us. He goes before you, stands beside you, and will never leave you. That’s the kind of assurance we need to step into our calling with boldness.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your promise to never leave or forsake me. When I feel afraid or inadequate, remind me that You are with me, giving me strength and courage for every challenge I face. Amen.
Challenge:
Write down one area of your life where you need courage today. Then, meditate on Deuteronomy 31:6, reminding yourself that God is with you in that very situation.
