Phil Weiser’s Space Command Lawsuit Is Pure Campaign Theater

Written by Scott K. James

Phil Weiser vows to sue Trump over Space Command. It’s less about defense, more about campaign headlines, and funded by taxpayers.

The Denver Gazette reports that Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser is threatening to sue if the Trump administration follows through on relocating Space Command from Colorado Springs to Huntsville, Alabama. Trump announced the move on Tuesday, reversing Biden’s earlier decision to keep the headquarters in Colorado. Weiser, a Democrat, blasted the move as “unlawful” and harmful to both national defense and the 1,700 personnel employed at the command. His office says it has been preparing for Trump’s decision and will fight it in court.

The Bullet Point Brief

  • Trump announced Space Command HQ is moving from Colorado to Alabama, undoing Biden’s decision.
  • AG Phil Weiser immediately promised to sue, claiming the move is “unlawful” and dangerous for national defense.
  • Space Command reached full operational capacity in Colorado Springs in 2023, employing 1,700 people.
  • Weiser framed the fight as protecting military readiness and families, but critics see it as political theater.
  • The Colorado legislature even set aside a special fund for Weiser’s office to sue Trump – because of course they did.

My Bottom Line

Of course Phil Weiser is suing Trump. That’s the only card in his campaign deck, and it’s the one he plays like a Vegas slot junkie. The Colorado legislature literally gave him a slush fund to bankroll Trump lawsuits, so now he gets to file briefs on the taxpayer dime while pretending he’s “defending democracy.” Give me a break.

This isn’t about justice or protecting military families. This is about headlines and ambition. Weiser wants the Governor’s office, and apparently the plan is to ride “I sued Trump” all the way there. Hey Phil, if you want to be Governor, show us you have a vision for the people of Colorado beyond filing lawsuits and mugging for the cameras. Until then, you’re just another performative politician spending our money to pad your résumé.
