CU, Climate Theater, and King Polis: Scott Sheet Readers Clap Back, and So Do I

Colorado’s inbox is spicy! From solar farms to zoning mandates and emergency weather theater – readers fire off, I fire back.

Welcome back to the Arena of Ideas, where the inbox is overflowing, the takes are hot, and no one’s using their inside voice. You Sheet Heads keep bringing the heat—some with applause, some with eye-rolls, and a few who clearly hit “Reply” while still mid-eye twitch. From weather emergencies and solar absurdities to King Polis the Planner and rebels in California, your feedback is proof that Colorado is wide awake and wide opinionated. So, let’s get into it: your comments, my responses, and a little digital sparring session for the chronically engaged.

Here’s what you said…

You nailed it. I’ve lived through hailstorms, droughts, tornadoes and now we declare a disaster when it rains too much? Polis is acting like Mother Nature needs a PR manager.

Gary in Longmont

From Me (somewhere with a shovel, not a press release):
Right? It used to be “if you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes.” Now it’s “if you don’t like the weather, demand a federal grant and a Netflix docuseries.” We used to just grab sandbags – now it’s lawyers and hashtags.

Honestly, declaring a state of emergency over predicted heat isn’t “woke,” it’s just smart planning. Climate change is real, and the state should be prepared.

Laura

From Me (not baking yet):
Laura, I’m all for smart planning – like roadways, water management, and infrastructure. But this wasn’t “planning,” it was a panic press release with a side of virtue signaling. If everything’s a disaster, nothing is.

Preach it. Boulder wants to keep their “open space” views while paving over ours with solar farms. It’s green colonialism, plain and simple.

Pete in Kersey

From Me (where we still grow food):
Damn right, Pete. They keep their meadows pristine while exporting their “green” guilt to Weld. They virtue signal, and we lose land. Sounds familiar.

This piece felt really biased. Solar is part of the solution, and CU has every right to build where it’s feasible. Why turn it into a culture war?

Erica

From Me (in the part of Colorado where feasibility wears cowboy boots):
Erica, two things. 1. For the umpteenth time, I AM NOT A DAMN JOURNALIST! I am an opinion hack. Of course, “the piece was biased.” It’s my opinion, thus, my bias. (Whew, got that off my chest.) 2. It becomes a “culture war” when one culture makes the rules and dumps the consequences on everyone else. If Boulder wants to feel green, it can start with its own rooftops. Weld’s not your dumping ground.

Bravo. Local control is dying a slow death under Polis. First housing mandates, now zoning? At this rate, he’ll be naming babies and picking school mascots.

Todd in Windsor

From Me (thankfully un-zoned):
Todd, don’t give him ideas. “Zoning equity” will turn into forced communal living next. Polis is acting like SimCity with taxpayer dollars.

I find your tone deeply disrespectful. Polis is trying to address our housing crisis. The alternative is sprawl and unaffordable living.

Denise

From Me (not stacking tiny homes on the prairie):
Denise, I’m all for solutions, but cramming apartments into places without the infrastructure to support them isn’t one. This ain’t SimCity, and Polis ain’t God. Local communities know their limits better than the Glorious Capitol City.

This one was 🔥. You said what a lot of us are thinking, but too scared to say out loud. Common sense is now controversial – go figure.

Calvin in Greeley

From Me (not scared of saying it out loud):
Thanks, Calvin. When fairness becomes hate speech and biology becomes optional, someone’s gotta say, “Hold up, we’ve lost the damn plot.” Glad you’re with me.

And that’s all you wrote…

Whether you agreed, disagreed, or just needed somewhere to yell without frightening your pets, thanks for jumping into the fray. The Scott Sheet isn’t just a one-way megaphone – it’s a back-and-forth, a town hall without the folding chairs or time limits. So keep smashing that reply button, leave a comment at the bottom of the post, or scribble your opinion on a cocktail napkin and send it my way. Around here, every take is welcome, so long as it’s honest, a little spicy, and better than what’s being said under the Gold Dome.
