Colorado’s Immigrant Surge: 40K Increase, $100M Price Tag, and Polis’s Gaslight Routine

Written by Scott K. James

Pew says Colorado’s unauthorized immigrant population jumped 40K in 2 years. Polis gaslights, Denver pays, and taxpayers foot $100M.

Colorado just added the equivalent of an entire city the size of Golden in unauthorized immigrants in under two years, according to a new Pew study. Nicole Brambila at the Denver Gazette reports that Colorado’s unauthorized immigrant population grew from about 160,000 in 2021 to over 200,000 by 2023. Much of the surge traces back to Denver’s self-declared “welcoming” stance, free shelters, and onward travel perks that turned the Mile High City into the Greyhound Station of Central America.

City officials admit the humanitarian response has cost about $100 million. But we all know that number is low. Are they counting the money they spent on homeless hotels? Mayor Mike Johnston says half of the migrants stayed, half moved on. And when the Gazette asked Gov. Jared Polis about it? He pulled a magician’s trick – disappeared.

The Bullet Point Brief

  • Pew found Colorado’s unauthorized immigrant population jumped 40,000 in just two years. That’s adding Golden without the quaint coffee shops.
  • Much of the influx began with a 2022 bus drop at Union Station. Since then, more than 43,000 arrivals have poured into Denver.
  • City perks like free shelter and onward tickets created a “pull factor” that officials now admit helped fuel the crisis. Translation: Denver advertised itself as free Airbnb with transport included.
  • The price tag is $100 million, with taxpayers footing the bill while city leaders beg Washington for partial reimbursement.
  • Polis dodged the press, but if you listen to him long enough, everything’s fine. We’re not a sanctuary state, and the budget mess? That’s Trump’s fault, obviously.

My Bottom Line

Let’s get real. Governor Jared “Gaslight” Polis insists Colorado isn’t a sanctuary state, even as our immigrant population spikes like a crypto scam. Denver spends $100 million on housing and busing people around, but nope, not sanctuary – just very expensive hospitality with taxpayer money.

And when asked about the costs, the political spin kicks in. The governor shrugs, the mayor sends invoices to D.C., and somewhere Trump gets blamed for Colorado’s budget hole. Meanwhile, the Great Suburban Normie has no idea that while they’re calculating their grocery bill in tears, their tax dollars are playing Expedia for people who just stepped off the bus at Union Station. Wake up, folks. Your leaders aren’t leveling with you, they’re gaslighting you.
