EPA Shuts Down Lab—Cue the Green Grift Tears

Written by Scott K. James

EPA shutters its scientific research branch, and suddenly climate scientists are shocked to face reality. Welcome to the free market, folks.

The Environmental Protection Agency is cutting off its scientific research arm – or at least part of it, impacting approximately 1,500 EPA-funded staffers. CBS News broke the story and centered it around concerned scientists lamenting their futures. It’s like watching trust fund kids realize Dad’s cutting them off. Mind you, this comes at a savings to the taxpayer of a cool $748.8 million. For some, that’s a lot of money.

The Bullet Point Brief

  • EPA shutters its science lab; bureaucrats panic like it’s the end of the Ice Age (which they also once predicted).
  • Hundreds of government-funded “scientists” suddenly realize jobs don’t grow on taxpayer trees.
  • One scientist whined she may have to leave America because there are no other jobs—girl, welcome to capitalism.
  • The lab’s closure is under review by new Administrator Zeldin. Fingers crossed he doesn’t get bullied into re-opening this taxpayer tit.

My Bottom Line

Let me say something that’ll make environmentalist heads spin faster than a California wind turbine on fire: taxpayer-funded science that can’t stand on its own in the private sector isn’t science—it’s subsidized ideology. The EPA was created with a noble mission—protecting our environment responsibly—but over the years it’s become a holy temple for eco-extremists more focused on fantasy policy than real-world impact. And that makes this shutdown long overdue.

We don’t hate science. Hell, I love clean air and water—I breathe and drink just like you. But I also love jobs and energy independence and not tanking our economy in the name of junk models and activist spreadsheets. If your research only survives as long as taxpayers foot the bill without question, maybe it wasn’t so essential after all. Maybe cutting this bloated lab is step one toward making the EPA useful again—instead of being a sanctimonious shakedown operation that punishes working Americans while virtue signaling from recycled office chairs.

To the scientist considering fleeing America because there are “no jobs here”, I’ve got news for you: If you’re good at what you do—and you’re not barking climate apocalypse nonsense for grant money—the good ol’ free market does still reward skill. Either find work or join AOC’s next TikTok crusade—your choice.
