As much as I like sharing and commenting on that which I read, I also like sharing that to which I listen. Ironically, the 40-year radio broadcaster listens to zero radio – all podcasts now, but some of those podcasts are of traditional radio broadcasts.
One is Steve Deace. Interesting guy. He’s on Glenn Beck’s Blaze Network. Very much a Christian and analyzes politics through a Biblical world view, which I try to do, and often fail.
Listen to this show (embedded below) at the 32:30 mark. (The commentary on Bill Maher, which I will address in another post, is fascinating, as well.) Deace’s guest is John Zimrak, and they discuss John’s op-ed, Ukraine First Speaker Johnson Forgets American Freedom, and Uselessly Risks a World War. Here’s my Five Bullet Brief of the article:
- The article critiques U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson over his handling of U.S. aid to Ukraine and border defense measures.
- Zimrak raises concerns about the potential implications, comparing the current situation to historical events that led to world wars.
- There is an argument against considering Ukraine as a NATO member and arming it, due to the potential threat of nuclear conflict.
- Zimrak advocates against the idea of risking American lives to protect countries that lack the willingness to defend themselves.
- Republicans fall under criticism in the article for focusing on restoring Crimea to Ukraine, while overlooking other pressing domestic issues.
While I supported sending military aid to Ukraine in the beginning, our continuing shipment of cash to the most corrupt country in the world is head scratching. Seems like Ukraine’s number one industry is soaking American boomer politicos out of our tax dollars because we still have a “defeat the Russkis at all costs” outdated mentality.
Intriguing points from the interview (Not saying that I agree with it all – I agree with most, disagree with some, but find the entire conversation fascinating):
- The failure of the Christian community in politics.
- The term Christian Nationalist is a dog whistle invented by Southern Poverty Law Center to scare old people in Florida into writing them checks (PREACH!!!).
- It’s designed to sound like white nationalist just like “election denier” is designed to sound like holocaust denier (NAILED IT!).
- What is it about Ukraine that cause politicos to print money, inflate the dollar, shift priorities away from home, and betray their constituents? Great question by Deace. What is it about Ukraine?
- Zimrak asserts that the left has figured out the “PIN code” of the right – The Cold War. We. Must. Beat. THE RUSSKIS!”
- Many of us (me included” see Russia (the former USSR) as the enemy of everything decent in the world. And it was.
- Putin has said that if we make Ukraine part of NATO it will result in World War III.
- The U.S. treating Ukraine as a defacto member of NATO is every bit as provocative to the Russians as was the USSR putting missiles in Cuba was to the U.S. (SOLID point)
- Zimrak asserts our politicians are corrupt, cowardly, and self-serving and are willing to throw the U.S. into a war to “feather their own nests.”
- We are public Christians like Mike Pence and Mike Johnson so disappointing when they take power? Zimrak suggests that, “for them, Christianity is like background music.” It brings a point worth discussing: Do you want your leaders to merely believe in something larger than themselves or do you want them to truly enact the tenants of the Bible? Not mandate God’s warship, but legislate in alignment with the tenants of Christianity?
- If you (politicos) are not willing to stand up to institutions than you are utterly useless.
- Zimrak would rather see Putin win in Ukraine than to have the FBI infiltrating our churches, the FBI listening to us without warrants, and parents losing kids to transgender grooming school psychologists.
- Zimrak suggests that everything happening in America right now is as pad as if uPin would occupy the United States.
- We have already been conquered by a totalitarian state that hates Christians (the Biden administration (that I find difficult argue with).
- Would you trade having one American city “nuked” for a victory in Ukraine? (Nope)
- Theologically, Trump is what we deserve. He’s a flawed Samson.
I don’t have any stunning synopsis. I just found the conversation intriguing, honest, and I wanted to share it here.
